Velo-Touring, Cycling Holidays in Hungary

Day 1. – ARRIVAL IN BUDAPEST. – Individual arrival latest until 6pm in Budapest. Tour briefing with the guide, dinner together.

Day 2. – GATE OF THE DANUBE BEND. – Off to the Danube! Cycling through the Margaret-Island, water-sport facilities along the Danube towards Szentendre. An artist-town with small houses, narrow alleys and stairways up and down – the Dalmatian baroque towns pop in for everyone. Sightseeing and free time.

Day 3. – DANUBE BIKE PATH, LIGHT RAILWAY, WOODS. – Cycling from the hotel to the Danube ferry towards Dunakeszi. This is where the new Danube-bike path is to be found. We continue towards the baroque city and bishop’s see of Vác. From here we go on towards Kismaros then we ride the narrow-gauge railway. Walking in the forest. The last stage takes us back to the Danube.

Day 4. – OPEN AIR MUSEUM AND ROYAL HUNTING GROUND. – We start an „Island-stage” on the embankment of the Danube to the large open-air museum (Skanzen). We visit the complex in details. Short transfer and we cycle calmly until we reach the forest open-air thermal-spa of Lepence. Cycling to the town of the former royal residence of Visegrád.

Day 5. – ESZTERGOM. –We get to the ferry station of Visegrád. We start here the most beautiful stage of the Hungarian Danube bike path, we cycle northwards in the direction of the Slovakian border-crossing. We continue in the neighboring country until we reach the Danube bridge of Maria Valarie next to Esztergom. We visit the main cathedral of Hungary. Cardinal Josef Mindszenty’s final resting place is in the crypt, among others. Beautiful view from the lookout terrace on the Danube-scenery.

Day 6. - DANUBE PANORAMA WITH WOODS“. – Visit in Visegrád. (fortress town) We cross the Danube again. Transfer to the woods. We start biking in the heart of the Börzsöny mountains and we roll undisturbed to the lookout point located at the river to enjoy a fantastic panorama of the Danube.

Day 7. - ISLAND JOURNEY AND BUDAPEST. – After getting to the other side with the ferry, we cycle on the Danube Island Szentendre until we get to Szigetmonostor, just across the town of Szentendre. This stage is our last along the Danube. The colourful baroque buildings, the romantic backyards, the narrow alleys, pubs and coffeehouses are all pretty and tempting. Goodbye to the bikes. We go get back to Budapest using the suburban tram, then to our hotel. Free time. Pleasant goodbye dinner.

Day 8. Individual departure after breakfast or staying extra nights.
