Sunshine and dry continental air define the climate of the region this bike tour travels through. Above all, this tour is not a simple "Wellness Offer" as much as an opportunity to enjoy this spas and thermal waters in the context of a cycling holiday. And every night, you will stay where you can bathe or swim in the curative waters. In the Carpathian Basin in Central Europe, where Hungary is located, the crust of the earth is very thin, so the thermal waters rise very easily from the core of the earth to the surface.
There is a saying in Hungary that all you have to do is push a stick into the ground to reach the thermal water rich in minerals and trace elements. Thanks to this natural phenomenon, and with more than 400 hot springs and 200 thermal spas, Hungary is a world leader in spa vacationing.
In fact, thermal waters in Hungary have been used for curative purposes since Roman times, which developed an extensive bathing culture around the hot springs.
All Hungarian spas have chlorine-free mineral pools of varying temperatures of 80-100 degrees Fahrenheit (28-38 Celsius). The hot springs gush into the surface at very high temperatures and have to be cooled off to different temperatures suitable for bathing and swimming. Day 1 – ARRIVAL AT BUDAPEST – Individual arrival in Budapest latest until 6pm. Tour briefing with the guide and dinner. Overnight in the Hotel of Budapest. Day 2 – DOBA-PUSZTA / BEREK SPA – The transfer bus/van takes us collectively near Szolnok (at the River Tisza). Handing over the bikes and “warm-up”. A beautiful stretch (nature reserve) on the dike lies ahead. River crossing by cable ferry boat. Through calm villages until we reach Kunhegyes. Short bus/van transfer to the hotel. Fun in the thermal spa/swimming pool. /Hotel for 2 nights./
(Stage approx. 42 km / 26 miles cycling) Day 3 – THE LAKE TISZA AND TISZAÖRVÉNY – Guided city tour in Kunhegyes, then bike ride in the direction Lake Tisza, cultural and natural landscape of World Heritage. Beyond the barrage is the second largest lake in the country. Again a beautiful, "nature-full" cycling stage. Today's destination is the boat-harbour Tiszaörvény. In this region gush effective thermal waters.
(Stage approx. 47 km / 29 miles cycling) Day 4 – BIRD RESERVE IN THE NATIONAL PARK – Cycling towards the strictly protected bird sanctuary of Lake Tisza. We explore by boat (guided tour) the wild and romantic water world. The Tisza embankment is all around well paved, so it is easily "rideable". Arrival in the region of the riding life. In horse stud farm will bred the fabulous Nonius-breed. Time for bathing, swimming and relaxing.
(Stage approx. 40 km / 25 miles cycling) Day 5 – WILDLIFE PARK HORTOBÁGY – Today, a "Puszta-taxi" (=covered horse carriage) is waiting for you! Journey to see the horses, gray cattle, spiral-horned sheep and the typical dwell of this region. The largest continuous natural grassland of Central and Western Europe is ideal for birds and unique plants. Continuing towards the environment of Hajduszoboszló (Nádudvar), popular place for small game hunters and open-air thermal-bath fans. A very pleasant bathing experience awaits you here!
(Stage approx. 44 km / 27,5 miles cycling) Day 6 – BICYCLING AND BATHING – After the first stage opportunity to swim in HajdúszoboszIó, the largest open-air thermal spa of Hungary with 17 pools, swimming- wave- spring- and thermal pools. Later a light day tour through Hajdúszovát. Last bathing-fun in Kaba with its well-cared local open-air spa. Here, you say goodbye to "Haiduk" region and to the Puszta. The van/bus takes you together to Budapest in the late afternoon. Goodbye dinner and overnight in the hotel of Budapest.
(Stage approx. 37 km / 23 miles cycling) Day 7 – Individual departure after breakfast or exploring Budapest’s, additional night/s. Maybe participate at the 4-hours Budapest City Bike Tour (extra booking, see prices below).
