This "tailor-made" cycling tour for those, who would like to enjoy Hungary longer starts in Vienna with a short common transfer to the bordertown of Sopron, which with its middleage ambience is a special start of this wide, all-embracing West to South tour. You will cycle through beautiful Transdanubian hills for five days. You will see ancient, nice villages, winehills, colourful fields, orchards, sparkling thermal water and many other things with artistic and cultural breaks. In Keszthely you will see the wonderful Lake Balaton. Water soft as velvet, air just like champagne, tasty wines and good meals. Moments that are rich in experiences enrich this tour again and again. We show you the birthplace of the Hungarian Art Nouveau - Pécs (part of the World Heritage) for a change. After the winebeatitude in the cellar-village Hajós, the unique Bugac-Puszta follows, which you will get to know from horse-drawn carriage. Then the cycling tour leads you to the National Memorial Park, where you will get an insight into the more than 1100 years old Hungarian history in a fascinating interpretation. Day 1. – ARRIVAL IN VIENNA. – Individual arrival in Vienna or Sopron. In order to help your arrival in Sopron, please read our 2 FREE transfer alternatives: 1.) Our meeting point is at the international ticket office in the Western Railway Station (“Westbahnhof”) in Vienna. Here you will be greeted by our guide at 3:30 p.m. and then taken to the border town Sopron by bus. 2.) You also have the possibility to travel directly from Budapest to Sopron via IC train (trip takes 2.5 hours). We will be happy to purchase your train tickets in advance. Attention! Both transfer options require application min. 30 days before the start of the tour. – In case you would like to drive to the start hotel in Sopron by your own car, we will organise the free parking for the duration of the tour there. Request has to be sent in advance! Sopron has a beautiful medieval centre and unique ambience. Dinner and overnight stay in Sopron. Day 2. – ON THE ROADS OF TWO COUNTRIES TO THE SPA. – We cycle through nice villages and blooming agriculture. The foothills of the Alps reach the Small Plain here. Cycling on towards Bük/Röjtökmuzsaj. (Stage: approx. 34 miles / 54 km) Day 3. – ”WINE OF THE WEDDING NIGHTS”. – Cycling through small villages to the new thermal spa of Celldömölk. Continuing towards the Somló-Hill. Visit at the wine-cellars and a nice wine tasting. (Stage: approx. 30 miles / 48 km) Day 4. – LAKE MAGIC. – Cycling through tiny settlements charmed with their typical atmosphere. Stork nests decorate the roofs and electric posts. Our next stop takes place in the well-known town of Hévíz, with the largest natural thermal lake of Europe. Then we cycle towards the city of Keszthely, laying at the Lake Balaton. (Stage: approx. 39 miles / 62 km) Day 5. – ALONG THE LAKE BALATON. – Cycling first on the western- and then on the southern side of the lake. We continue cycling along the flat southern lakeside. You may have possibility to swim. We continue cycling well rested, soon reaching the town of Balatonfenyves. (Stage: approx. 33 miles / 52 km) Day 6. – MANORS OF THE FESTETICH AND THE ESZTERHÁZY. – Untouched forests, endless flatlands and dreamy valleys among gentle hills characterise this area. The roads of the former Roman province Pannonia lead directly to Kaposvár. (Stage: approx. 38 miles / 61 km) Day 7. – SET OUT FOR PÉCS! – One of the most beautiful regions of Southern Transdanubia, the Zselicség begins here. The nature reserve part of Zselic is densely wooded. We ride on to Pécs (part of the World Heritage), which is surrounded by hills and it is the birthplace of the Hungarian Art Nouveau. /Hotel for 2 nights/ (Stage: approx. 39 miles / 62 km) Day 8. – DAY FOR REST AND SIGHTSEEING. – Sightseeing in Pécs, European Capital of Culture 2010. The town has a series of impressive sights dating from the Roman era (catacombs from the early Christian period) to Art Nouveau. Dinner and accommodation in the hotel of the previous night. Day 9. – WINE FROM KEG IN HAJÓS. – Transfer bus to Tolna, then cycling through Gerjen to reach to ferry and go over the archiepiscopal city of Kalocsa, at the river Danube. We go towards Hajós. The village with 1450 wine cellars (protected and it is unique of its kind) awaits us with a wine-tasting, contucted by the German-Hungarian local winegrowers. (Stage: approx. 30 miles / 48 km) Day 10. – BUGAC-PUSZTA. – We are taken to the proximity of Bugac-Puszta. Our “puszta-exploration” by bike leads us through Kiskunság National Park. With horse-drawn carriages through the nature reserve we see the herdsmen’s life, cross-breed horses, grey cattle, and spiral horned “racka” sheep.Continue to the spa-paradise Kiskunmajsa/Halas. (Stage: approx. 29 miles / 46 km) Day 11. – CONQUEST-MONUMENT IN THE NATURAL RESERVE. – We cycle through the nature reserve to the national memorial park to take a look at the Conquest Monument. The most famous sight: the monumental round-panorama painting of Feszty, which is one of the biggest in the world. (Stage: approx. 25 miles / 40 km) Day 12. – SPECIALITIES OF SZEGED. – We cycle along the embankment of the river Tisza. Untouched, calm water world. Little byroads lead us to the center of the most southern city of Hungary – Szeged. Sightseeing in the City Hall and National Theatre, the splendid Votive Church surrounded by university buildings and an open-air theatre. Tasty dinner with the fish soup “ŕ la Szeged”. (Stage: approx. 32 miles / 51 km) Day 13. – BUDAPEST. – We leave Szeged by bus or IC express train. We arrive in Budapest in two hours. We are taken to our hotel and then: free time. Goodbye-dinner and then “Budapest by Night” farewell-tour by boat on the Danube through the beautifully illuminated city. Day 14. – Individual departure after breakfast or staying for extra nights. Included – 13 nights B&B accommodation in comfortable hotels or guest houses in double or twin rooms with private facilities (shower/WC). – 13 evening meals of typical Hungarian cooking (half-board, 4 X with wine). – 2 X wine tasting: on the Somló Hill and in Hajós. – 3 X spa admissions. – Bus transfers according to the program description. – 1X horse-drawn carriage ride in Bugac-Puszta, including horse show – Danube-ferry. – Free transfer before the tour to Sopron: either by bus from Vienna or by IC train from Budapest, or having free parking for a car in Sopron – Service/Following bus for luggage transport from hotel to hotel. – Special bike-transporting trailer for the bicycles & spare bikes. – Admission fees & guidance according to program description. – Evening sightseeing cruise on the river Danube in Budapest with a drink on board. – English speaking guide during the whole tour. – Carefully selected routes. |
